JUNE 15 - BOOK DAY (IN ARGENTINA)

This celebration began in Argentina on June 15, 1908 as "Book Festival" . That day, prizes were awarded a literary competition organized by the National Council of Women. In 1924, Decree No. 1038 of the national government declared the official "Book Festival" . On June 11, 1941, a Ministerial resolution proposed to call the commemoration "Book Day" on the same date, an expression that remains today.

On the other hand, the World Book Day is a commemoration held at the international level in order to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright. At the international level is enacted by UNESCO , which began to enact the first time in 1995 . In several Spanish-speaking countries this day is celebrated as the Day of the language , unlike the International Day of the mother tongue is held on February 21 .

April 23 was chosen as World Book Day and Copyright Day, because it corresponds to the death of the writer Miguel de Cervantes , William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega on the same date in the year 1616 (although it is not this way actually : Cervantes died on 22 and was buried on 23, while Shakespeare died on April 23 of the Julian calendar , which corresponds to May 3 of the Gregorian calendar ). On this date also William Wordsworth (in 1850 ) and Josep Pla (in 1981 ) died.
